The conversion of the Red Store to Resource Centre and Craft Workshops for the communities of St. Veep and St. Winnow parishes was carried out with significant grant aid including the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Union. The Red Store is a listed building set alongside the Lerryn River. In the past it was used for storage of goods from merchant vessels. The basement and adjacent access road are flooded at each high tide.
Works included stabilisation of the outward leaning walls, selective replacement of eroded stone and of rotting timber posts in the basement, stone stitching of movement cracks in walls, repointing in lime mortar, selective replacement of floor boards and relaying granite steps to provide access for the disabled to the ground floor. Flood mitigation measures included water resistant finishes throughout the ground floor and the location of modern services above the predicted 100 year high flood level.
